Application & Polymers
Last month, in 'Polymer Innovations In Odour Suppression Part 1' we informed you of a housing development in Rutherford that has been experiencing a very foul situation in the form of not one but two giant mounds of chicken manure!!
This month in 'Polymer Innovations In Odour Suppression Part 2' we look at the application methods & polymers used to treat this Chicken 'Manure-luru'!
After an inspection of the site & samples taken for analysis & testing the goals of the project were soon established:
The Goals of the project:
Application Method Overview:
Within hours, the offending chicken manure odour was gone, fly activity was removed completely from both mounds & the subsequent future odour from this activity was therefore also erradicated.
Due to the polymer activity of the the applications, any subsequent rainfall is absorbed into the polymer 'cap' removing all runoff to nearby water courses & groundwater. In doing so, any possibility of spontaneous combustion was also greatly reduced.

| Mound #1 (Foreground) & Mound #2 (Background) |
The Goals of the project:
- Remove Odour.
- Remove Runoff.
- Remove Fly Activity.
- Stabilise Mound.
- Reduce Combustibility.
Application Method Overview:
- Mound #1 was treated with more polymer solution than Mound #2 in both liquid & dry applications.
- First application was a liquid polymer solution containing Water$ave Flobind. This was applied via hose & water cart.
- The second application was a dry polymer solution of SAP HPF P4 applied by hand.
- Third application was another application of the liquid polymer solution again containing Water$ave Flobind.
- These applications were done in one day by Dale & Sebastion before there was expected rainfall later that week.
- Although Mound #2 was treated with less polymer solution. It was deemed just as successful as Mound #1.

| Mound #1 After Applications |
Due to the polymer activity of the the applications, any subsequent rainfall is absorbed into the polymer 'cap' removing all runoff to nearby water courses & groundwater. In doing so, any possibility of spontaneous combustion was also greatly reduced.
These two mounds have now been removed & the manure has been spread around as fertiliser in sorrounding areas in Rutherford.
The nearby community were extremely pleased with the results of our quick work in treating this problem.
We believe these efforts to assist a local problem have created ourselves a new niche market in greentech polymers for the treatment of odour pollution.
